Deep excavations are usual in construction such as basements, underground car parks or metro stations. A rigorous analysis of these structures is required to ensure stability, design retaining systems, avoid excessive seepage and minimise disturbance to neighbouring structures. This course will introduce the participants to the basics of the analysis of deep excavations with finite elements using Optum G2. Although the application will be to deep excavations, many of the concepts introduced are also applicable for other geotechnical problems.
