Deep excavations are usual in construction such as basements, underground car parks or metro stations. A rigorous analysis of these structures is required to ensure stability, design retaining systems, avoid excessive seepage and minimise disturbance to neighbouring structures. This course will introduce the participants to the basics of the analysis of deep excavations with finite elements using Optum G2. Although the application will be to deep excavations, many of the concepts introduced are also applicable for other geotechnical problems.

Contents

  • Main issues faced in the analysis of deep excavations
  • Defining the different stages of an excavation
  • Seepage and pore water pressures
  • Special elements for soil-structure interactions
  • Influence of the material model on the numerical results

Optum License

A discount equal to the course fee will be applied to the purchase of a 1-year Optum G2 license!

Trainers

  • Prof. Lyesse Laloui, École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland
  • Dr. Aldo Madaschi, Nesol – Numerical Engineering Solutions
  • Dr. Jose A. Bosch, Nesol – Numerical Engineering Solutions
