The Finite Element Method is the most flexible and powerful tool to analyze and design engineering systems. Its application to geotechnical engineering problems poses a series of specific challenges (e.g., choice of the modeling domain, definition of the geotechnical model, choice and calibration of the constitutive models, etc). This course  introduces the basics and principles of the finite element method, emphasizing its practical application to fundamental problems of geotechnical engineering. The training has a marked practice-oriented component, with hands-on examples and case studies based on Optum G2.
